Getting Here

Travel to Teach will advise and support you with all your travel arrangements. Our FAQ page has some information and links that can be useful when looking for transportation to and within Thailand. Purchase your ticket and confirm your date and time of arrival with Travel to Teach. We will then make arrangements for a representative to meet you.

Reception

You will be met by T2T staff at your agreed destination. The introduction weekend (set at the dates below) consists of an introduction to T2T and to Thai Culture, an introduction to teaching English in Thailand, a tour of the local area and amenities, basic Thai language lessons and Thai cooking classes.

Food

Most schools will provide lunch for you whilst you are teaching. You will have to provide your own breakfast and dinner.

Each dorm has a fridge, toaster and water boiler, but no cooking facilities. However, the streets of Nongkhai are filled with places to eat and within a five minutes walk from the Green Dorm you have at least fifty restaurants that serve food around the clock. Around the Meechai dorm you can also find food stalls and smaller shops, with more restaurants and street food a few minutes bike ride away.

There are many convenient supermarkets and small store where you can buy bread, milk, cereal and other basics.

There are also are some twenty or so "Western restaurants" in town for some home comforts, and maybe 300 Thai ones.

Volunteer Work

You will be an assistant teacher or coach in our projects. This means working three or four hours a day with weekends free. Depending on your knowledge and interests you can also assist in and take part of a variety of different activities.
You will recieve more information on your teaching placement during the application procedure.

Accommodation

T2T has dorms in Nongkhai, Namsom and Chiang Mai. Please see individual location pages for more information. Volunteers living in dorms are responsible for keeping their accommodation clean.

In smaller villages we offer Home stays, which means that you will be living with a family where you can expect to live at the typical standards. You will be in a clean friendly environment but don't expect any luxuries. We will supply you with the telephone numbers of our local T2T English speaking personnel.

Vaccinations

You should tell your doctor that you are likely to go on a jungle trip in Northeastern Thailand and that you will live in villages in Isan. Keep in mind, Nongkhai is considered to be an urban area and one need not worry about malaria pills for staying exclusively in Nongkhai.

Insurance

One of the conditions of entry onto our programs is that volunteers have travel insurance. Most importantly the insurance needs to include medical treatment and repatriation in case of unforeseen accidents or illnesses. Volunteers should purchase insurance independently and bring a copy of their insurance certificate with them for their local co-ordinator to check before starting their program. Read our terms and conditions.

Visas

Please see our visa information page for details.

Certification

You will get a Travel to Teach certificate stating the time and place you have been teaching.
