Group Volunteering in Pai

North Carolina State University in Pai

The latest group to join a Travel to Teach program were from NC State University. Thirteen members of the prestigious Caldwell Fellows Scholarship program joined the Pai program, along with two advisors, to spend two weeks teaching English in village schools.

The group taught 4 hours of English per day leaving them plenty of time to learn how to cook Thai food, trek in the surrounding mountains, visit the hot springs, practice their Thai language skills and generally enjoy their time in the stunning surroundings of Pai. Amanda Bedsaul I cannot thank Travel to Teach enough for letting me be part of your group,even for such a short period of time. It was a real eye opening experience for me because this was my first time in a different country. I came to Pai not expecting to teach the kids very much because of the language barrier, but it just made it all the more fun and exiting. By being allowed to teach such wonderful children I have learned so much about myself, and I thank you for the opportunity. I also feel like I have become a part of a family here in Pai. Without Rick, Mam and Poo to make things fun and getting us pumped up it would not have been the same. Again thank you!!

Vansana Nolintha I do not know where to begin, the last two weeks here in Pai have been absolutely wonderful. Thank you for allowing us to come in teach and learn from the children. I have never before seen students so eager to learn, so alive and so lovely...I have never seen brighter smiles. Thank you for taking us in as a part of your family, after all you guys are those that bring this beautiful city to life. I will sure miss each and every one of you. It is comforting to know that there is so much beauty in people in this ever changing world. Last thank you for all that you do for this community. This world is a better place a step at a time because of people like you.

Nick Schultz What an incredible experience it has been! I never could have imagined that these two short weeks would have such an impact on my life. I have discovered joy in teaching that I never knew existed. T2T has impressed me beyond my expectations in all aspects: professionalism, friendliness and compassion. I could not have asked for a better organization with which to serve.

Paul Mobley Thank you so much for this incredible experience! The past two weeks have been very rewarding, and better than I could have ever imagined. Seeing how much the children have grown in their knowledge in a weeks time was amazing, and knowing how much our presence meant to them makes me never want to leave! I learned a lot about myself and Thai culture, and feel like I belong and am welcomed, rather than being viewed as a tourist. The spirit, attitude, and smiles of the children are truly an inspiration on how to live your life.

Dane Emmerling Words cannot express how amazing the past few weeks have been. I have had an incredible time on every possible front. The teaching is great and very rewarding. The other volunteers as well as the people who coordinate the program are incredible. I feel honoured to have had the opportunity to partake in such a wonderful thing, thank you.

Janice Odom Sometimes… when we’re lucky, life gives us experiences so unique that they transcend time and space…and we are never again the same. Travel to Teach, in Pai, Thailand has been just such a time for all of us. The opportunity to step into the community and the open arms of the people… especially the children … has been a true gift. I will carry in my heart the faces and the spirit of all I have met here.

Megan Chesser Travel to Teach what an amazing way to experience a country - starting with its heart....in the lives of the children. To be able to see the world through their eyes how they interact with each other and the Farangs. It has been a humbling experience to see how impactful we are. And Travel to Teach is by no means about being a teacher – it was far more like being a student with 24 teachers who were shorter than you: to learn the animals and songs and an easy smile ready to welcome anyone are just a some of the lessons I'll be taking back with me. I would certainly consider doing a longer trip again - no other way could be better: the support network and friendships superb. Thank you, T2T, for providing me this great opportunity to learn.

Patrick Ewing Travel to Teach has been an amazing and culturally enriching experience. I traveled to Thailand to teach English but ended up learning more from my students than I could ever have taught them. As I continure to study education at NC State, I will be able to draw upon my experiences this week as invaluable tools that have prepared me for life as an adult and global citizen.
