Regardless of the length of your stay, you will be able to learn some Thai and you will have time to get to know a new culture, come to know its people, and form relationships that will outlast the duration of your stay.

Getting Here

Travel to Teach will advise and support you with all your travel arrangements. Our FAQ page has some information and links that can be useful when looking for transportation to and within Thailand. Purchase your ticket and confirm your date and time of arrival with Travel to Teach. We will then make arrangements for a representative to meet you.

Reception

You will be met by T2T staff at your agreed destination. The introduction weekend (set at the dates below) consists of an introduction to T2T and to Thai Culture, an introduction to teaching English in Thailand, a tour of the local area and amenities, basic Thai language lessons and Thai cooking classes.

Food

Food is paid for by our volunteers.

Often when we teach in schools we are invited to share the school lunch with our fellow teachers. T2T has a welcome dinner and frequent "parties" and we often cook meals in our dorms. Apart from that participants are responsible for their meals.

Volunteer Work

You will be an assistant teacher or coach in our projects. This means working three or four hours a day with weekends free. Depending on your knowledge and interests you can also assist in and take part of a variety of different activities.
You will recieve more information on your teaching placement during the application procedure.

Living and Accommodation

T2T has dorms in Nongkhai, Namsom and Pai. Please see individual location pages for more information. Volunteers living in dorms are responsible for keeping their accommodation clean.

In smaller villages we offer Home stays, which means that you will be living with a family where you can expect to live at the typical standards. You will be in a clean friendly environment but don't expect any luxuries. We will supply you with the telephone numbers of our local T2T English speaking personnel.

Vaccinations

You should tell your doctor that you are likely to go on a jungle trip in Northeastern Thailand and that you will live in villages in Isan. Keep in mind, Nongkhai is considered to be an urban area and one need not worry about malaria pills for staying exclusively in Nongkhai.

Insurance

One of the conditions of entry onto our programs is that volunteers have travel insurance. Most importantly the insurance needs to include medical treatment and repatriation in case of unforeseen accidents or illnesses. Volunteers should purchase insurance independently and bring a copy of their insurance certificate with them for their local co-ordinator to check before starting their program. Read our terms and conditions.

Visas

People from the European Union, the United States, Canada, and many other nations can get a three months tourist visa by contacting the Thai embassy in their respective country.
Almost all nationals get a 30 tourist visa on arrival. This can be extended twice by crossing a border. If you intend to stay for more than three months you should get a three month visa.
Three month visas can be extended at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane. This procedure regularly takes two days. The cost for a Lao visa is 30 US$. For more information contact the nearest Thai embassy in your country: Traveller2000.com

Project Options

You can divide your time here between two different projects. For example, you can stay for two months in Nongkhai and a month in Pai or Namsom. You can aslo divide your time between our programs in Thailand and Vietnam or Cambodia.

Certification

You will get a Travel to Teach certificate stating the time and place you have been teaching.
