Medical and Health Care Projects

Medical

Travel to Teach can offer the unique opportunity for medical students to gain experience within their field assisting doctors in Nepal.

For qualified doctors and nurses, there is also an opportunity to administer medical care and attention within Nepal and in Cambodia.

In Nepal experienced medical volunteers can travel with local doctors to remote villages where there is no permanent medical care. Many rural areas are a long way from the nearest hospital or health center - distances that most people can only afford to travel to for serious health problems.

Traveling doctors perform a vital service, but they are always extremely busy. Working with the traveling doctors is a hands on experience and volunteers will be diagnosing and treating patients. As a result these placements are best suited to qualified doctors or nurses.

Volunteers can also assist the doctor’s in hospitals or rural health posts. Depending on the volunteers experience, this is less hands on therefore, it’s more suitable for medical students that are still training. Volunteer placements are available in Pokhara, Langtang and Chitwan.

At our Art teaching project in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, we at Travel to Teach are looking for qualified Doctors and nurses or medical students to help out with the children who are extremely poor. These children have little or no health and hygiene knowledge, so they are continually falling ill with various sickness and viruses.

At present our partner project in Sihanoukville is trying to cover all of the medical bills when the masses of children are in need of medical attention at the nearby hospital, but sometimes this just is not feasible. By having a medically trained volunteer at our Sihanoukville, beach painting project in Cambodia, Travel to Teach and it’s partnering organisation would be able to direct the money towards other essential needs such as clothing and food instead of the donations being drained by hospital bills.

For volunteers who have no medical experience or previous medical knowledge you can still help at our new Ghana project in Accra educating local communities in the risks of HIV and AIDS.
